Flames to Sparks

***Writing tip: What do flames mean to you?  Write it down.  Go over it again later and add another element of light to your poem.  Take a look at what you have created. ***

Flames in fire
burst and give way
their only mission to burn
for the joy of life
and the energy they bring
Through the darkness
they blaze
cutting into the cloak of black
casting it away
at no small price.
The flames fight
using all their wood,
sucking oxygen in gulps
just to keep going
until they are a small ember
Their glow
is invisible
but to the discerning eye
who knows
somewhere the light is there
The flame begs
to be tended
so it can help once again
can God rekindle the spark?
