Lost in time
unaware but of pain
on the verge of breaking
it cries out
tread softly on this heart.

Tossed in the storm
as the waves crash in
it cannot handle torment
so it cries out
tread softly on this heart.

Filling a lifeboat
with tears of a lifetime
the heart is shattered
as it cries out
tread softly on this heart.

It faces the hurt
of destructive betrayal
burrowing deeper in darkness
it cries out
tread softly on this heart.

Alone in the darkness
the heart escapes
the pain of life
it no longer cries out
too many tread harshly on this heart.
